In some cases, replacement of the entire windshield is not necessary. The process involves filling the damaged area with special clear adhesive resin. The resin is then cured with an ultraviolet light. When done properly, the damaged area’s strength is restored, as is most of the clarity.

However, if the damage is in the sightline of the driver, or in the wiper area of the windshield, the windshield should be replaced.
